Today is the autumn equinox. That means there will be an equal split of day and night hours and we welcome the season best known to most for pumpkins and firework displays. Historically, for Learn To Uke, this has been a time to welcome our new courses. More about that later…

– BRITISH: the season after summer and before winter, in the northern hemisphere from September to November and in the southern hemisphere from March to May.
– ASTRONOMY: the period from the autumn equinox to the winter solstice.
equinox/ˈiːkwɪnɒks,ˈɛkwɪnɒks – noun: equinox; plural noun: equinoxes
– late Middle English: from Old French equinoxe or Latin aequinoctium, from aequi- ‘equal’ + nox, noct- ‘night’.
– The time or date (twice each year) at which the sun crosses the celestial equator, when day and night are of equal length (about 22 September and 20 March).
– another term for an equinoctial point.
