What is Learn To Uke? The original (and, we think, best) ukulele course in London. We’ve enabled thousands of adults to play at our ukulele lessons, both in a recreational setting in London since 2009, and, since 2010 with our musical team building sessions. We love empowering groups of adults to knock out a well-known song in an hour.
2020’s a little different. We’ve moved to online ukulele classes. Join us! Most people make a friend or two in our live classes. It took a global pandemic to lose London-centricity and open our ukulele lessons to people all over the world. I wish I’d done it years ago! There are 6 people, maximum in the live classes. For team events, we scale, depending on your needs. You’ll get all the help, support, fun and camaraderie you need.
Many ex-students go on to play the ukulele at social ukulele jams in London – nowadays on zoom or around the campfire. Some ex-students used ukulele for stand up comedy, others have formed bands. Ant and Dec used theirs on their TV show, Saturday Night Takeaway.
MAKE YOUR TEAM ZOOM MEMORABLE
If you’re planning your Xmas party, this could be just the thing to make it memorable.
I founded Learn To Uke as I want to open up fretted instrument playing to everyone. Since 2009, I‘ve successfully taught several thousand people to play the ukulele (including TV’s Ant & Dec). I’ll teach you, too, if you want to learn.
I was taught how to play the ukulele by Hester & George from the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain in 2007. Prior to that, I had played ‘London’s Burning‘ badly on the recorder at school. I remember how it feels to be unable to play a stringed instrument or any instrument for that matter! For this reason, I’m a patient ukulele teacher. I‘ll hold your hand through your first, second and third steps on the ukulele.
I started the ukulele jam night, Ukulele Wednesdays, and the band KaraUke, which luckily, have been pretty successful. Then, after only having played for a few years, I retrained to teach music. I hope to inspire you to enjoy it as much as I do.
Professional memberships: Musician’s Union, National Association of Music Educators.
I promise to have you playing (or improving on) the ukulele within an hour – even if you have no prior musical experience. It is a great way to unwind, and I aim to be as far removed from traditional musical teaching as possible. You’ll be whizzing through lots of well-known, popular songs, strumming and singing rather than slowly picking your way through ‘twinkle twinkle’.
DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT...
Some people who have Learned To Uke with us:
“I’ve learned more in 3-4 lessons here than I did in 10 lessons at another London course. Thank you so much!”
“Pure escapism. If you thought you could never play an instrument, think again. Don’t miss it.”
This site is pretty new and is being worked on solely by me, Lorraine. I’m currently spending most of my time working on this, unpaid. As I’m sure you can imagine, replacing 11 years of in-person work and trying to make decent tutorial videos and web design is a big job. To contact me, please use the contact form, here. I aim to bring the same fun, relaxed and informal approach to the online courses as I have to in-person adult groups.
